Healthy Snacks

Like most people, early afternoon rolls around and I need a snack! This was super difficult when I was working in the office because there aren’t healthy snacks laying around – so I would start meandering to the candy bowls or leftover treats just to eat something! After realizing that snacking was a bad habit I decided to bring a dedicated afternoon snack everyday. If for some reason I wasn’t hungry I wouldn’t eat it and would leave it in the fridge for another day. But having a snack was a great way to stay away from unhealthy junk!

I want to share my go-to healthy snacks that I would bring into the office. They’re all easy to make and bring with you!  You can definitely buy healthy snacks (like pre-made hummus and veggie kits), but these are easy to throw together and much cheaper. I also wanted to share how much these snacks might cost to show they really are that affordable! (These prices are from my Aldi and Costco, so prices may vary where you are)

Veggies & Ranch

  • Be sure to pick a dressing without a ton of added sugar — Bolthouse Avocado Ranch is a favorite
  • I usually have carrots as my veggies – a whole bag is $0.49 at Aldi. I also love cutting up cucumbers so I’ll use those too.
  • You could also swap this out for hummus if you don’t want to use a salad dressing!

Cottage Cheese

  •  I used to think cottage cheese was nasty, but full-fat cottage cheese is one of my favorite snacks. A container is $2.29 at Aldi, and I only need 2 scoops for a good snack. It will keep you full all afternoon! Just be sure you have some mints for after you eat it 😉

Hard Boiled Eggs

  • The price and protein in eggs are hard to beat. I just got a dozen eggs at Aldi for $0.48!!! That’s insanely cheap. I usually buy a few dozen at a time and hard boil 10. My husband loves to eat them in the morning with his breakfast and I love them for afternoon snacks.

Yogurt & Fruit

  • We buy big containers of organic Greek yogurt from Costco at $5.99 and a large container of blueberries is $3.99. Mix them together and you get a great snack! If you’re going to work I would leave the berries separate and mix them in when you’re going to eat so they don’t get mushy.

The grand total for all of these snacks (minus tax and whatever salad dressing you have in your fridge) is $13.24! Hard to beat that price for healthy snacks. Plus yogurt, cottage cheese and eggs last for a while in your fridge – so this could easily stretch to 2 weeks. Be sure to have some small containers (this or this) to bring snacks with you. Part of my goal in this post is to show that healthy eating doesn’t have to break the bank – smart choices and having healthy foods on hand will make it easy to eat healthier every day!
