Now that it’s May – insanity! – graduations are fast approaching. Whether it’s high school, college, or grad school it’s a big day and a special event. My husband’s medical school graduation is in a few weeks and I can’t wait to celebrate! I’m definitely more excited than he is, or at least I show it more 🙂
Warning: there are going to be many photos and lots of walking! And it could be hot, raining, or just generally uncomfortable. We were outside and sitting in a black graduation gown made it pretty toasty by the end.
If you’re the Graduate
You will be wearing a gown but most people wear it “open” for photos or even take it off! Be sure to wear something comfortable and cute. This midi dress would be so perfect since it’s sleeveless and simple! Last year’s most popular blogger-summer dress was this Wayf dress from Nordstrom. It’s back with multiple colors and is another cute choice.
Moving away from simple dresses (Which I’m always a fan of!) I love this one-shoulder dress. Also how fun are the tie sleeves on this dress? It looks like it’s lighter as well to wear in warmer temps. Oh it also comes in 8 colors – winning! I also have to include this off the shoulder dress is SO CUTE and also comes in a ton of colors. I’m looking at getting this one for myself!
If you want to wear a pattern/details I’ve got some more great options! This Free People dress comes in multiple colors and you can definitely wear it all summer. Plus the detail is right in the front = easy to see in photos! I love the lace detailing in this Express dress – it comes in navy and pink. If you want super cute all-over lace be sure to check out this blue dress. It is so adorable and dainty!
Now onto another essential element – shoes! Wearing pointy heels will be very problematic on grass. I really recommend sticking with wedges or something with a thicker heel. No one wants to fall when walking across the stage (worst nightmare!) so be sure you can walk confidently in whatever you wear! Everyone raves about how comfy these Marc Fisher wedges are and you could definitely wear them all summer! These espadrilles would be great, as well as this pair with the fun tie detail!
As a Guest
Even if you’re not the graduate you are going to be in lots of photos and spending some quality time sitting in a stadium or arena. I wanted to pick some dresses that are event-appropriate but could be worn for other summer events (like weddings).
How fun are the flutter sleeves on this Calvin Klein dress? You could definitely wear it to summer weddings or even to work! I also love the simplicity of this shift dress – and it comes in 7 colors. I remember stumbling across this striped dress last year and I love it just as much this year!
J. Crew has some great dresses for summer – including this lace dress (comes in 3 colors), this gingham one and this eyelet option!
I haven’t decided if I’m going to get a new outfit or try and wear something I have. Of course I would love to be practical and wear one of the many dresses I have, but the urge to get a new outfit is always strong! At least we will be inside so I don’t have to worry about rain or heat. Congratulations to everyone who is going to be graduating soon – enjoy your last few weeks before you enter the real world 🙂
