Happy first weekend of June – how did we get here?! Well this is our first weekend living in Lexington and I can’t wait to explore. We have a lot of unpacking to do so I’m not sure when we’ll be able to venture very far! Today I wanted to share my summer bucket list – warm temps, eating outside, here I come! P.S. how cool is this treehouse you can rent?!?!?
Red River Gorge
I’m a big fan of hiking and parks, so this is a win-win! One of the first things we heard about in KY was the Red River Gorge. My husband is hiking there with his residency class so he can do some advance recon. It’s a bit far for a day trip, but worth it I’m sure! Apparently the hiking is world class.
Kentucky Horse Park
What better way to get to know Lex than to experience horses? It looks like there are shows and events all summer at the Kentucky Horse Park, so we we might need to check one out! I love horses so I can definitely get behind watching competitions. Plus you can do normal tours and ride!
Bike & Explore the Area
We already have a list of area trails we want to explore (Legacy Trail, Town Branch). One of the best parts of being in a smaller city is the ability to bike a few minutes and be on quiet back roads! Lexington is unique because there are horse farms all around the city – drive less than 5 minutes from our house and you’re on quiet back lanes surrounded by fencing. That makes it pretty ideal for biking! I also want to be sure we get to Raven Run park and explore there!
Hit Some Antique Stores
This is also because I need to decorate our house – and I want some items that aren’t cookie cutter! I’m really not a vintage/antique shopper but I follow Miss Molly Vintage on Instagram (@missmollyvintage) and she has shown some super cute stores in the Lexington/Versailles area!
Eat & Drink!
It’s essential to find good bars and restaurants when you’re in a new city, so this is definitely a priority 🙂 I know I want to try Saul Good, Crank & Boom, and Josie’s. Oh and Chocolate Holler – chocolate drinks sound AMAZING. Plus I’ve heard Dudley’s on Short has a great patio, which would be great to check out!
Be sure to follow along on Instagram (@helenlovesblog) to see if/when I get to any of these places!
