Full disclosure: I’m writing this post as a piece of motivation for myself! So bear with me if this sounds repetitive 🙂 With packing, moving, and the general business of life I’ve fallen out of my workout routine. So in the past few weeks I’ve decided to do BBG and cardio 4 days a week. BBG is a HIIT/interval workout with 3 workouts a week. It’s the most intense workout I’ve ever done but it feels so good to complete it. With all the eating out lately I finally felt the need to be active again!
So today I wanted to share some tips to help me (and whoever is interested!) get into a healthy routine. I talked a bit about workouts in this earlier post, but I don’t have a gym membership yet so my routine has changed a bit.
Schedule It
I live by my planner. It’s with me at my desk at home or at work! And if it’s not in my calendar it doesn’t happen – period. So I’ve written down when I’m going to workout this week and next week and I’m hoping to stick to it!
Find a Friend
Nothing is more motivating than having a workout buddy! It’s harder to bail at the last minute and the time goes by faster. I’ve yet to join a gym or find anyone that I could workout with – but I’m definitely looking. I have some neighbors who run so I’m trying to get back into running so I can go with them occasionally.
Find a Workout Class You Love
In MN I got addicted to Alchemy super quickly. The workouts were fast paced, different every time, and I noticed results in my arms after only a few weeks! Sadly they don’t exist outside of the Twin Cities 🙁 another workout I want to try is Orangetheory! I love high energy workouts and having to pick a time ahead of time (and sign up!) is a big motivator for me.
Wear Cute Clothes
Sound silly? Maybe it is, but how I dress impacts how I feel. It’s the same with workout clothes! If I’ve got a cute top to wear I’m more likely to workout and feel ready to go. Wearing a junky old t-shirt just doesn’t do it anymore. These are my favorite shorts because they’re longer and don’t ride up. They also have a liner – essential for lifting or doing intense classes in the gym. I also love this tank top and I am thinking about trying this bra – sorry for my Lululemon addiction. The bra is pricey but you need something good for intense workouts!
Follow along on Instagram
There are SO many good fitness accounts on Instagram – from intense HIIT workouts to yoga. I love following these trainers for motivation and to get workout ideas! This article from The Everygirl has a ton of good accounts to check out. Here are some blogs and accounts I love –

If nothing else happens, go for a walk!
I love exploring our neighborhood so the least I can do is go for a walk after dinner, right?
I’m taking the month of July as a start to being more active and incorporating workouts into my routine. With my husband working so much I have SO much extra time and I can definitely fit in workouts! I’m also looking into some local gyms and studios where I can workout a few times a week – if you have any suggestions in the Lexington area leave a comment!
I rounded up a bunch of fun workout gear in the carousel below – check it out!
