Ok guys, the biggest element of being healthy is eating! You can workout like crazy but that won’t make up for bad eating habits. I try to eat healthy but I’m not on any strict regimens or diets – that just doesn’t appeal to me. (And I honestly have never tried) I live by the “everything in moderation” motto – but I wanted to share 3 easy tips to help you make healthier choices everyday!
don’t drink your calories or sugar
I talked to an acquaintance once who was complaining how she couldn’t lose weight despite working out an hour a day. As she talked to me she poured her THIRD glass of Mountain Dew – and I thought, that’s why! Soda is 100% empty calories and sugar and has ZERO health benefits. I avoid it completely and think you should too! (You’re here to read my opinion, so there is it!) Plus drinking soda hides the calories and sugar intake – it’s not like eating a meal, so you won’t feel full. Avoid avoid avoid!
I also try not to drink alcohol on weeknights – mainly for calories. Alcohol has a ton of calories and I would rather enjoy it on weekends or special occasions! Granted if we’re meeting friends on a weeknight I’ll have a drink, but I try to cut back on drinking at home. Side note – you can save money on alcohol this way too!
Also, juice is basically a fruit-based soda that’s pointless. So I would avoid those too – drinking 1 cup of apple juice has 113 calories and 24 grams of sugar!!
eat at home
Obviously I go out to eat – in fact I ate out two lunches last week and one dinner! That’s way more than normal for me but it was with coworkers and friends, so I didn’t want to say no! It’s super hard to eat healthy at restaurants and I honestly don’t try to pick healthy when I go out. If I’m eating out I pick something I won’t make at home and don’t eat normally – and that usually ends up being something rich. So to combat that I try to make my lunches for work and make homemade dinners. Eating at home is generally healthier than getting takeout or going to a restaurant – you can control portions, what goes into your meal, and avoid deep frying, etc! Just trying to limit eating out to once a week can really help you eat healthier.

stay hydrated
I don’t know about you, but I can definitely tell when I’m not drinking enough water! I’ll have headaches and feel groggy all day at work. So I have a MASSIVE water tumbler that I fill up constantly. I might look ridiculous walking back and forth to the kitchen, but it’s worth it! Plus drinking water has a ton of health benefits – like lubricating joints and keeping your body temperature normal.
Also, sometimes I just want to eat or drink something because I’m bored. Does that happen to you? When I get that urge to mindlessly snack at home I will fill up my Yeti and chug some water!
All these tips are FREE, don’t require massive lifestyle changes, and can help you feel better everyday. I don’t know about you, but if I’m eating junky I start to feel it – and I don’t like that! As always, these are my tips and ideas so do what works for you and I’m not a nutritionist or health professional, so this is my personal opinion. Take all of it with a grain of salt and do what works for you!
