I am SO excited for the Keeneland fall meet!!! Everyone at work (and form Lexington) raves about Keeneland and I can’t wait to finally get a chance to go. I talked a little bit about it in this post, so today I wanted to talk about outfits for Keeneland. I’m gathering the tips I’ve received and sharing what I’ll be wearing – or at least the general formula 🙂 I can’t promise I won’t buy a different dress or skirt before I go! But here are the tips I’ve heard for what to wear to Keeneland, in no particular order:
wear layers
Since the meets are in October and April the weather can vary a lot. It makes sense to bring a sweater or light jacket if the temps are on the edge. You don’t want to be too hot or freezing all day! I’m planning on wearing either my jean jacket like here or my suede moto jacket (see alllll about that in Wednesday’s post). Plus if it’s hot – like it was when we took these photos! – you can take the jacket off and enjoy the weather!
wear comfy shoes that you can walk a LOT in
The ONE thing I heard most frequently was to wear comfy shoes. Don’t wear heels or anything that you can’t walk forever in! I really think boots like the ones I’m wearing are a great option because they’re sturdy and have low (if any) heels. Also, don’t wear a pair of shoes for the first time at Keeneland – you’re guaranteed to get blisters and regret it!
only bring what you need
Basically, don’t bring a massive purse and lug it around all day. Wear something small – like a crossbody – so you don’t have to worry about carrying it or having it in one hand. You want your hands to be free for the unavoidable drinks and food!
I know this is super broad but it provides a framework for planning your outfit. You want to be cute but able to have fun with your friends and enjoy the day! I’m going with work once but I really want to go more than that – be sure to follow along on my Instagram to see when I go (@helen.loves)!
