An All-Time Favorite Outfit

Sometimes you have outfits that you wear over, and over, and over again. I don’t wear this exact outfit all the time, but I wear elements of it super frequently! I would consider this a favorite outfit and I wanted to take a bit of time to talk about all the elements.

Sometimes a black dress and black boots are the perfect look! Sharing these two wardrobe essentials and how I dress them up or down over on the blog. // Click through to see more!

Dress: similar (more below!) // Purse: Michael Kors // Sunglasses: Ray Ban // Boots: Frye // Necklace: Nordstrom

I bought this dress on a whim at Madewell years and years ago. It was probably $150 – which was a lot to just drop for no reason. But I saw it, tried it on, and it was dress perfection. I’ve worn it SO much since I bought it – showers, holidays, nights out, basically any special occasion you can name!

I love it for two reasons. First – the cut is super flattering and easy to wear. It highlights my natural waist and is the perfect length! Secondly, the black is so versatile and timeless. I can make the dress look totally different by changing my sweater, jewelry, or other accessories. I’ve yet to find an occasion where it’s not an option to wear!

Unfortunately Madewell doesn’t make the exact dress anymore, but I found some black dresses I think are equally versatile. I love this fit & flare dress, this shift dress, and this midi dress! They’re all classic styles and can be worn all year.

Now onto my boots – another investment. I bought these boots 5 years ago before I studied abroad  because I wanted something warm that I could walk long distances in. They took a few weeks to break in but now they are so so comfy. I can wear them for hours without anything hurting! The leather is an amazing quality and the cut is classic – you don’t want to spend $300 on trendy boots. (At least I don’t) Frye boots are known for their quality and they don’t come cheap – but if you pick a style you can wear frequently it can be worth it. They do go on sale occasionally (i.e. Nordstrom Anniversary Sale or Shopbop Sale) so you can definitely wait for then.

Sometimes I feel like it’s boring to showcase wardrobe staples – how exciting can a plain, black dress really be? But these staples and basics are what make up the majority of my wardrobe. Their versatility makes the investment worthwhile and I can easily add trendy items (i.e. leopard!) for the season.
