Leather leggings – they sure don’t sound very wearable! But after owning a pair for a couple years, and seeing them all over Instagram, I wanted to share two ways to wear them.
Leather leggings are a great, fun option for occasions this winter. They’re warm, a bit unexpected, and easy to wear! Honestly I think they are a secret weapon to have for special events – you can jazz an outfit up by wearing these instead of jeans. Plus they’re definitely not the liquid leggings you might be thinking of from decades past.
I wanted to put together two ways to wear them to show how actually versatile they can be. I’m not suggesting that they will replace normal leggings – definitely not! – but they’re a fun option to have on hand.
Dressy
Leggings: Spanx // Top: Lush Tunic // Jacket: Blank NYC // Purse: Primark (old), similar // Shoes: Tory Burch // Sunglasses: Ray-Ban // Earrings: Lily Rain, similar
I could see myself wearing this outfit to a Christmas cocktail party we have tomorrow night! It’s fun but easy to throw on. And I will say that these leggings are super flattering – thank you Spanx! They definitely suck you in and smooth everything out. I love wearing them for that reason! Also they’re super warm so they’re perfectly for colder nights.
You can tell that I’m wearing leather but it’s not over the top or flashy. I feel like that’s the best way to wear leather leggings – fairly subtle and with basic pieces. If you wear things that are too flashy – sequins, sparkles – that could push you out of the classy and into a different leather leggings look. Not bad, just not what I’m personally going for!
Casual
Leggings: Spanx // Top: Madewell // Sweater: Target // Purse: Old Navy // Boots: Frye // Sunglasses: Ray-Ban
Would you believe me if I told you I wore this exact outfit – messy bun and all! – to Kroger? Yes I ran normal errands in leather leggings! And the key to making them casual is to dress them with very casual pieces – like a chambray top and oversized sweater. Plus by wearing boots you only see a sliver of the leggings – so it’s more subtle.
Also, the inside of these Spanx leggings is lined with some super soft fabric so they’re easy to wear for occasions where you want to be cute and comfy. They still suck you in – not going to lie! – so I don’t know if I could wear them hanging around the house, but they’re perfect for casual occasions. I could see myself wearing this out to dinner with friends, or even just running errands when I wanted to wear something a bit different.
So what do you guys think – would you wear leather leggings? Do you think I successfully styled them both ways? Or are they too trendy and this trend will fade quickly – I’d love to hear what you think, seriously. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
