Home Updates – What We’ve Done & What’s Next!

So today I’m taking a quick break from outfit posts and moving back to Home Decor – a lot of you said you wanted more decor on the blog this year!

I figured I would start with an update on where we our with our house. If you weren’t here in June, we moved from St Louis to Lexington, KY and bought our first house. It’s a new build so we don’t have a ton of diy home updates to do, but we do want to make it our own! So in this post I want to share what we’ve done, what we want to do, and what we haven’t done (and why).

what we’ve done

Replaced Faucets

  • Chrome is not my favorite, so we’ve taken out our master bath faucets and replaced them with oil rubbed bronze! We were able to sell the faucets on Craigslist which was a definite perk. Swapping out faucets is so easy – there are so many great YouTube videos out there. I’m sure it’s more complicated if you have an older house, but my husband was able to update in 15 minutes.

Framed Our Mirror

  • This is probably my favorite update so far! We wrapped our builder-grade mirror with a “frame” – some 1x4s all the way around it. I’ll be writing a step by step DIY for this – it was SO worth it. Our bathroom looks so much better!

Plants

  • We planted some plants in our backyard – fingers crossed that they make it through the winter!

on the agenda

Downstairs Half Bathroom

  • I love having a half bathroom downstairs for visitors, but it’s super bland! We’ve replaced the faucet, I’m looking for a new mirror, and we still need something else. Shiplap maybe? Or painting the whole room navy? What do you guys think?

Second Bathroom

  • We bought gold hooks back in July and I totally forgot about them….whoops! We have one long wall and need more room for towels, so we need to put them up. These are the hooks we got from Target. Hopefully my husband will put these up this week!

Bedroom

  • We have no decorations up in our bedroom, and it’s kinda sad! We tried to get some prints printed but they turned out super poorly and didn’t fit the frames I already had. (There goes trying to reuse!) So now we’re back to the drawing board. We have super high ceilings so I don’t know what to do…one photo above our bed? But that leaves 3 other walls….ugh! This one is tough.

Family Room Furniture

  • We JUST bought furniture this weekend! I’m so excited! Well first I had some serious buyers remorse but now I’m very excited. We got this couch in basketweave ash, and these chairs in molasses. Now to get accessories – like a console, ottoman and rug. Thoughts?

what we decided not to do

Replace our sink – half bathroom

  • We have a pedestal sink which is not our favorite – there’s no space for anything and it’s just not our style. We talked about replacing with a new vanity, but it’s hard to find much under $500! So I’m glad we decided not to go that route.

So there you have it – a running DIY tally! It’s fun to see the house become more our own and less bland (although I still don’t have a ton of color, but that’s just not me!). Be sure to check back for more details on the mirror DIY and I’ll share everything on my new family room when I get my furniture.
