what I’m doing this weekend….deleting facebook!

So this title might look like click bait – but it’s true! I’m deleting Facebook this weekend!

For MONTHS I’ve been saying “I wish I could get rid of my Facebook completely.” I get frustrated every time I look at my newsfeed and I am so apathetic about everything I see. Facebook has so much control over what content you get, and their push for videos (they make WAY more money on videos than posts) has driven me insane. There were times I would open the app and only see videos people were sharing.  I also feel like Facebook has become a place for people to yell. About their politics, their habits, or what they made for lunch – and I just don’t care to see it anymore.

A few months ago I noticed that I was so much happier when I didn’t check Facebook, so I removed the app from my phone and only could access it on my computer. Well I obviously don’t spend as much time on my laptop, so I rarely checked it. And when I did login, my newsfeed was showing items that were a month old because I hadn’t been checking it recently.

For a while I thought I would keep Facebook so people could get life updates. Then I decided I don’t feel comfortable sharing things there anymore. I don’t want to share personal photos, personal information, and moments with hundreds of people. I’ve tried to unfriend a ton of people to narrow down who sees my content, but Facebook doesn’t make that easy. I kept getting warning messages – “Are you sure you want to unfriend this person?” “Did you unfriend X by accident?”.

Also, Facebook knows so much about each of us – and ALL of that gets shared with advertisers. Every site you visit has Facebook pixels that track you around the internet and get tied to your Facebook profile – pass! Quick summary of Facebook Pixels here.

All of these things together have led me to decide to delete my profile. I realized I don’t need to keep it because everyone has one – I can do what I want. I can delete it and life will go on! I love Instagram so I’ll be staying there, and I do have a Twitter I rarely use 🙂 If you want to get a hold of me you can comment here, call, text, or email!
