first trimester recap!

If you missed our big announcement, head to the previous post!

Ok so now that the news is totally out, I figured I would do a first trimester recap! I had a lot of preconceived notions about it, so I wanted to share my experience.

Sharing a recap of my first trimester! // Helen Loves

First off, I didn’t have any nausea which was fantastic. I have heard so many horror stories lately I just figured that I would have the same experience – but luckily I didn’t. The only time I’ve felt *almost* nauseous is when I ignore my hunger and tried to go to bed – ha! Before being pregnant if I got hungry around 8:30 I would just ignore it, but not now. So we’ve got loads of veggies and healthy snacks for late-night snacking!

The only symptom I had in the first few weeks was being pretty dang tired. I would come home and be glued to the couch at night – and working out or doing anything basically went out the window. I feel like I turned a corner at week 10 though and am back to feeling pretty normal. Plus the increased energy made it easier to workout again, and getting in runs two or three times a week is great. Yes I’m still running occasionally – my OB said it was fine since I ran before pregnancy, I just can only run at about 80% of the distance and intensity I did before! Which is totally fine by me 🙂 I’ve been looking at these workouts from Expecting and Empowered and bought the 2nd Trimester PDF yesterday – I want to do workouts that are safe and modified (not a lot have any modifications?) and squats are my FAVORITE move! For real!

I haven’t had specific cravings – I basically could just eat junk food most days. So I’ve indulged in Five Guys (once), McDonald’s (once lol) but think about driving there a lot. I’ve let myself get a treat on weekends and that usually helps with avoiding junk during the week.

It’s much harder to stay hydrated so I now have water with me all the time. I’ve got my massive yeti and home and in the car, and a similarly massive cup at my desk! I feel so much better when I’m hydrated so I’m trying to stay on top of that. Also, weirdly enough, I no longer like coffee. WHAT has happened to me!! I used to look forward to coffee each morning and get a killer headache when I didn’t drink it. Literally the day after I took a pregnancy test I made one cup and didn’t care at all – it just tastes different to me and I don’t like it. I’m sure that will change back once I have the baby, which is honestly ok because I do miss how much I loved coffee.

Another thing that has been on my mind in this first trimester is body image/self image. I’m a pretty healthy person and if I’ve ever noticed my jeans being tighter (hello holiday season!) I cut back on treats, exercise more, eat more veggies, and have pretty fast results. But this time around the tighter clothes aren’t because of bad eating, so that’s a big change. It’s funny to notice yourself getting a bit bigger (I mean I just look like I ate too much at this point) and not need to do anything about it – so I’m trying to not stress about it and realize my body WILL change, and that’s ok!

I just look like I ate a bit too much and am still wearing all my normal clothes. I can still zip up and button my jeans and shorts but that’s getting a bit harder and harder. The end of that is probably in sight!

I get more excited everyday so it’s fun to have another place to share. I hope you have a great week!!!
