getting back into reading

Our trip to Kauai spurred me back into reading and reminded me how much I love it!

I don’t know if you’re like this, but I just forget how much I love to read since Netflix and Amazon Prime are so handy all.the.time. There’s always something to watch – but sometimes I don’t have a great book! So I’ve been trying to take advantage of the library and stock up on books.

In case you didn’t know, lots of libraries let you check out ebooks that work on a Kindle or Nook, etc. You can request them like normal online and then you get an email when they’re ready to download. I love this option because I’d rather get a book for free than spend $10 on a digital copy! Also if you don’t have one, I do really recommend grabbing a Kindle. It would be a great item to add to your Christmas list. I do love physical books but you can’t beat the ease and size of a Kindle. Especially when you’re traveling!

Recently I’ve reread the Harry Potter books and have started The Nightingale. Next on my list are Code GirlsBeautiful Boyand Hillbilly Elegy. I’ve had the last book on my list for a while – even before we moved to Kentucky. But since moving here I’ve heard a LOT of strong opinions about it. So I need to read it for myself! What else should I add to my list?

In case you’re on the fence, here are some more reasons I love reading…..

It’s waayyyy easier to go to sleep!

Checking my phone before bed always seems to wake me up. Reading a book is a perfect way to unwind and calm my brain down before bed!

It’s a great a way to pass the time time anywhere.

I’ve been bringing my Kindle to Dr appointments while I wait! Luckily my Dr has always been on time and super speedy, but it’s great to have something to entertain myself.

You can learn something new or just escape for a while!

I’m not really a romance reader or pure fiction – I love historical books much more. (You can probably tell from the books on my list above!) But reading is a great way to forget about your day-to-day and get lost in another world.

Notice what’s different about this photo? Can’t forget my kindle!

On a similar topic, if you have an iPhone, have you started using the new features to limit your apps? I turned on “app limiting” after 9 pm and it’s so awesome! I can just use the phone, my texts, and GroupMe apps. Everything else I can’t open! Sure I could go in and disable the feature in settings if I really wanted to, but just this little barrier stops me from checking.

So between that feature, and grabbing a good book, you should be able to unwind at night without technology. There’s nothing like reading in bed with some cozy blankets! Plus it’s even more perfect in these cool temps……..love it!
