I used to wash my hair every other day, but I’ve changed my routine a bit and I’m now washing every 4 days or so!
This isn’t just related to having a baby – I think it’s good to wash and heat treat my hair less. So today I wanted to share some products that help and some tips to stretch your hair between washes.
Start with a clean scalp
I think that ensuring you clean your scalp is the key to preventing grease. I have two lines that I love – Aveda Scalp Benefits and Pantene Charcoal! They are very different price points, but I love them both. I use them about every third wash to deep clean my scalp. Adding these products really cleans and keeps my hair healthy! You have to start with the right foundation to be able to prolong your washes.
Curl on day 1!
Another great tip is to add body on the first day. Leaving my hair naturally straight doesn’t last as long, but curls are easy to hide grease and re-style for 4 days. So on day 1 I really devote time to curling my hair – with a wand – so that I can spend less time on it the next few days.
Find a dry shampoo that works
I’ve had horrible experiences with bad dry shampoo, but I’ve FINALLY found my holy grail! Living Proof dry shampoo is my ride or die. I always have two containers because I just can’t let it run out. A little bit goes a long way and it actually cleans instead of just masking grease. I apply some before bed on day 2/3 and wake up with cleaner hair!
Another key is to keep your hair off your face (especially if you have oily skin like me) so it gets less greasy. Less greasy = less need for dry shampoo.
Perfect a messy bun
A messy bun is going to be your standby for day 4. And the most hilarious thing is that I get SOOO many compliments on my messy buns!! For real – they take 2 seconds.
I know a lot of people might find it nasty that I don’t wash my hair everyday – sorry! But between life with a newborn and just my personal preference, this is what works for me. So if you want to save some time and perfect your day 2, 3, 4 hair, I hope these tips can help!
