Cold Weather Skincare Routine

Sorry for the break in posts last week!

It was pretty insane – we declutted like crazy people around the house and then packed for our long trip. We had a smooth travel day (Thank you Delta for checking our 4 bags for FREE!!!) and have been enjoying family. But back to the blog….

Today I’m sharing my current winter skincare routine. It’s perfect for those of you in dry climates, with dry skin, or those of you who just want to focus on hydration and moisture. Check on all accounts for me!

Before having my daughter my skin was oily or combination and I had always had problems with acne. After that it flipped to being completely dry – which meant I needed to change up my skincare routine. So I’ve adjusted and found what works for me in the wintertime – when my skin most needs that extra moisture.

skincare products

Cleansing

If I wore makeup I start with the Clinique Cleansing Balm. A little bit goes a LONG way! It is the best product I’ve ever found to completely remove makeup, including mascara and eyeliner. So I use that to do my first cleanse.

I mentioned in a beauty empties post that I’ve gone back to a *very* old cleanser – the Phytomer Perfect Visage. I love it because it’s gentle and doesn’t strip my skin. My skin still feels moist after cleansing, unlike some face wash that can leave your skin feeling stripped. I almost always use my Clarisonic to wash my face as well!

Double cleansing might sound like work but it leaves my skin feeling clean and ready for serums and creams. Plus I don’t have to worry about raccoon eyes when I wake up in the morning!

Treat

I alternate between using L’Oreal Vitamin C and a retinol alternative from Herbivore. I just started using the Herbivore product at Christmas and I’m working it into my routine slowly (I don’t want to irritate my skin). Both products help even out skin tone and correct blemishes. For extra “oomph” I use my GloPro before these serums (after cleansing) to make the products really sink in. The GloPro is a super fun addition and would be a great gift for the skincare junkie in your life!

Moisturize

Final step! Trust me this routine takes less than 5 minutes when you do it all together 🙂

I end with my FAV Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream – either on it’s own or with a few drops of Josie Maran Argan Oil added. My skin needs all the moisture it can get, especially when we’re up in Minnesota.

Extras

On nights when I’m being lazy and don’t add any serums I use this Laneige mask as an overnight lotion. My skin feels so great in the morning!

I’m eyeing these undereye masks (lol) to apply in the mornings after my daughter goes down for her nap. I usually get ready then, and I could wear these while making coffee or doing my hair. Have you tried them?

So this might sound a bit “extra” but I’m into skincare right now, and having this routine at the end of my night is super enjoyable. It might take some trial and error to figure out what works for you, but once you do it’s nice to have a good skin plan. I alternate between loving makeup or skincare more – and recently I’m all about that skincare. Plus I’m wearing less makeup than ever which means I want my skin to look good!

I hope some of these items help your dry winter skin. They help mine so much! Happy skincare and happy Monday friends.
