One of the biggest eye-openers of moving was to see how much STUFF we have! It’s shocking how much you can accumulate and not even know it. After moving (and knowing that we won’t be in this house forever) I am being more cognizant of what we have and use.
One bottle of spray down, 7 more to go!
First things first, I’m using what we already have before buying more. I mentioned this a bit in my 2021 prep post, but I have so so many cleaning supplies, for example. I will not be buying more cleaning items until I run out! I will replenish specific items (like Windex – cannot be replaced! Or laundry detergent), but if I have something else to use I will use that. After I plan to start using Branch Basics because it’s interchangeable and I love the idea of using a concentrate.
Second, I’m buying less clothing for my daughter and baby. We have so many items that never get worn and I would rather do laundry than not wear what we have! Plus they grow so quickly that it’s not worth buying a ton of clothing. For things that can be passed down (coats, PJs, etc) I want to invest in good quality items like PJs from Hanna Andersson. Those will last forever!
Lastly, I’m being RUTHLESS with what gets removed from our house. The only way we can use what we have is to get rid of the junk we don’t use or need. If we have an item that we haven’t used since moving in May, it’s going away! Sure there are some specialty items I will keep (turkey pan), but we don’t need the extra tupperware that was in storage and never used.
It might sound silly but adding less to our house is making me feel so much lighter. We have less stuff and I can keep things clean and organized easier than before. Plus I get a spark of joy every time I use something until it’s *gone*. Trying to waste less makes me feel so much better.
