Hi guys! Happy monday!
Today I’m sharing some tips I use every week for keeping my hair healthy. I feel like this is *especially* important as I look down the line towards postpartum life and hair loss – so some of these tips are SUPER important then. But they’re great for any time of life because let’s face it, damaged hair is no fun.
So here are some rules I abide by…
Less heat is better
I really really try to limit the heat on my hair. If I’m going to curl it, I let it air dry. I try to blow dry my hair once a week max. Heat is the quickest way to damage your hair, even if you use a heat protectant. Cutting out eat was the quickest way I noticed my hair growing healthier and stronger. So if you can, try cutting back on heat – it might be easier since we’re spending so much time and home and not in the office!
Clean your *scalp*
Maybe you suffer from dandruff – I do in the winter! – or your hair just seems like it’s lackluster. The first place to start is your scalp! Products can build up on your scalp and prevent proper growth and turnover of your hair. Dry shampoo is a huge culprit of this. A “normal” shampoo won’t do much to remove this build up – so I like to add in a special product a few times a month.
Enter Scalp Benefits shampoo and conditioner from Aveda.
Is it pricey? Yes. Is the texture a bit weird? Yes. But it works SO WELL! This was my life saver when I was postpartum and it truly helped my hair start to grow back stronger.
Dry Shampoo…Friend or Foe?
Ok guys – years ago I was obsessed with dry shampoo. I used it all the time. But the thing is, it never really made my hair look better and it just seemed to make buildup and greasiness worse. So I stopped using it…and now my hair looks better on day 3 or 4 than it did when using dry shampoo. That’s just my personal experience – but if you’re relying on it a ton, maybe cut back and see if your hair looks better? It worked for me!
Prevent Grease While You Sleep
The *easiest* way for me to prevent greasy hair is to sleep with it in a loose bun at night. This way my hair doesn’t get in my face and it seems to stay cleaner longer! This one trick has definitely extended how long I can go between washes and helps a ton when my hair is curled. The curls stay wayyyy longer.
There you have it – some of my tips to improve your hair and maybe even save time! If you only take one tip from above, just cut out heat occasionally. That will make the biggest difference. Plus it just gives you more opportunities for cute headbands 🙂 Win win!
