Tried & True Newborn Essentials

I CANNOT believe I have a three month old! That means we’re basically out of the newborn stage which makes me so so sad…it goes by too quickly. I wished it away with kid #1 because having a kid is overwhelming and I felt like everything was new and unknown – which it was. But this time I knew what I was doing and I’ve truly enjoyed the overnight feedings, cuddle naps, and babywearing. I know that it will be over so soon so I’m wishing it would slow down….

Anyways – here is the gear that we use literally daily. I recommend everything below fully and truly love it! So if you’re shopping for yourself or for a gift I really can’t recommend the below enough. Let’s get started!

swaddles

A swaddle is a MUST for a newborn! They have a very intense startle reflex so their hands can flail and wake them up. We love these Halo swaddles for very little babies and then the Ollie swaddle is the best for when they are bigger and stronger. We started using the Ollie around month 2 and it really helps them stay secure overnight. A must for good sleep – and a great sleep cue for them too.

target cloud island sleepers

These zipper sleepers are essential for overnights. I hate snaps! A zipper is so much simpler and easier to use when you’re tired and it’s dark. These sleepers are affordable and come in lots of patterns. They’re perfect for a registry or baby shower gift. Snag a bunch of sizes because babies grow quickly!

sound machines

Like a swaddle, a sound machine is great for a good sleep environment. We have used Hatch sound machines for years with our older daughter and got another one from my baby sprinkle for baby boy. We use it for every nap and at night. When we’re on the go I love this portable sound machine. It helps drown out random noises when we’re in the car (hello older sister!) or in the stroller.

pampers swaddlers diapers

Ok Pampers Swaddlers are the best newborn diapers. They are soft and work well! I’ve tried other brands and these are the best for small babies in my opinion!

baby bjorn bouncer seat

There are a million types of bouncer seats or swings but we are obsessed with this seat from Baby Bjorn. It collapses, is easy to move around, and both my babies have LOVED IT. They will happily sit in there forever! We added this bar for fun and again BOTH kids love love love the fox in the middle. So cute to see them “talk” to it as they get older 🙂

solly wrap

There’s a bit of a learning curve but the Solly Wrap is great for small babies. You can keep them cuddled up to you – which babies love! – and keep your hands free. Or keep baby safe from older siblings 🙂 Win win!

nuna car seat

So this isn’t as “fun” but the Nuna Pipa carseat is amazingly light and easy to install. We love that you can use it without a base as well for travel or just switching cars. (The Pipa lite cannot be installed without a base FYI)

These are the items that we truly use everyday and have for the last three months. You really don’t need a ton of gear for a newborn but the items you have will get a lot of use! So know that I’ve tried all the above for two kids and 100% recommend them to anyone.
