RTR Try-On & Review

A few months ago I decided to get a monthly plan from Rent The Runway (RTR). Today I wanted to share some thoughts after trying it for a few months – I’ve got lots to say!

RTR has individual rentals for events like weddings, bachelorette parties, showers, etc. I have used dresses like that for years and have had a great experience. It is a great option for finding a fun outfit without having to buy something new.

A few years ago they launched a service where you can rent items each month that are part of your normal wardrobe. You can pick from 4, 8, or 12 items a month – clothes, purses, jewelry. I picked the 8 item plan which means I get 4 items, twice a month. So I can pick 4 items and then request 4 all new items. I could keep the items as long as I want and not swap them out, but getting new clothes is the whole point!

I’ve realized in all our moving that I buy a lot of fast fashion that doesn’t last. I try trendy items but I don’t want to wear them forever. The items I wear over and over again are quality items I invest in and wear for years. But being post-baby (6 months which is insane!!!!) I didn’t want to invest in items while I’m still losing weight. So I decided to try out a plan and I have loved it. It has been so much fun to get new items every two weeks for the last three months.

I have loved the option to add pieces to my closet without having to spend a ton of money. I pay about $100 a month for 8 pieces. It’s not a “deal” but I think it’s a great way to try items – especially when I’m in between sizes. They also have added a ton of maternity items, so I think this would be a great option while pregnant!

I also think that having new, cute clothes has encouraged me to get dressed more and look a bit more presentable. Do I get dressed up everyday? No. But I am enjoying trying new pieces and getting out of my comfort zone – especially when I can just return the pieces after one wear.

I wanted to review my most recent order because it is my favorite group of items so far.

First off – these Mother jeans. They are so on trend and so comfortable. I loved wearing them and felt like they were flattering! I sized up two from my normal size (pre-pregnancy size) and they fit great. I wore them so much and honestly might consider buying a pair…..thoughts?

Next is this pink cropped sweater. Warning: it is VERY cropped. It didn’t look as cropped on the model but it was very cropped on me! It was good for wearing with my super-high waisted jeans, but not something I would purchase. I did love the pink and it was brand new!

Third – this black and white dress. I LOVE THIS! It’s a super flattering silhouette and nursing-friendly because it has functional buttons. It’s a lighter weight for those of us still in warm climates, but the darker pattern makes it perfect for fall. I styled it with booties for church. It’s wayyyyy too pricey to justify buying, but boy did I love wearing it. I definitely want to try more dresses from this brand.

Lastly, this blouse was my least favorite but still good to try. It didn’t seem to lay correctly – maybe it was too small? I’m not sure if sizing up would have helped, however, based on how it was designed. It’s tighter at the hips than I normally like. I did like the pattern and it was easy to put on with jeans.

Here are some outfits I’ve put together with previous orders. Some of my most-loved items from previous orders include this pink J. Crew sweater jacket, tan J. Crew sweater, and this leopard (?) dress shown below. I’m considering asking for the long sweater for Christmas because it would be perfect for a fall, winter and spring in a warmer climate!

Overall, I have loved shopping for pieces that I can add to my closet without committing to them. They seem to add new pieces all the time and it is fun to see what I can select. My next few orders will be fun to place with a family wedding, Thanksgiving, and then Christmas! I might pause once January rolls around and the social calendar dies down, and then re-up again later in the Spring for fun. We’ll see.

But so far I can definitely recommend a RTR plan if you want the option of adding trendy, quality items to your closet without spending on fast fashion that will wear out in one season. I love love love it!
