It’s a new year which means new projects! We are so happy with this house – I can’t believe we bought it SIGHT UNSEEN!!!! – but there are still some more things we want and need to do. Most need to be hired out so that’s why we have waited – here’s my list:
Paint!
We need to have our trim and doors repainted in the entire house. The trim and doors don’t match (why???) and the trim color varies throughout the house. I want it all to be consistent! I am actually thinking about keeping it the cream color it is in a few rooms – I feel like white would be too stark for our traditional house. Here are some pictures of tonal trim that I really like…
I am also going to get a quote to get our cabinets repainted. They were painted when the house went on the market but they did a horrible job and the paint is already peeling. So we need to have that fixed as well and I think refreshed cabinets will make our kitchen look fantastic.
Floors!
My husband really wants to have hardwood put in throughout the first floor of our house. Right now it’s half tile, half laminate (or engineered hardwood? hard to tell). Either way, the wood is in bad condition and we have to have rugs to hide the destruction from the dogs that lived here previously. I also think that changing the floors would be TRANSFORMATIONAL to our whole house. One flooring – instead of choppy tile then wood – will make the first floor look bigger and more open. We have a traditional layout instead of open floor plan and cohesive wood would improve the look of the entire space. This project is really a question of money…so we’ll see. If we do the floors we will do that before we do any painting since the baseboard trim would need to be redone. We’ll see!
Fence!
Our fence is literally falling down and is finally getting replaced. We’ve got a bid and are just waiting to schedule it. A fence might not seem glamorous but it’s going to make our backyard look so so much better. And we won’t have to worry about the neighbor dogs breaking down the fence…which has happened multiple times. But honestly my 20 month old could break down the fence – it’s tied up to trees in a few places because it has fallen over. So bad!
I’m sure there are other things we want to do but these are the biggest items I want to tackle in 2023. They will all make a huge difference in how our house looks and I’m excited to see what we can make happen. Be sure to follow along here and on Instagram (@helen.loves) to see what we do!
