What I’m Reading – No. 2

I’ve been trying to read more so here’s what I’ve read lately! If you missed it, here was my first list of recent reads.

The Danish Way of Parenting

This was a quick read with some good simple tips. I think it will help me remember to stay calm and also prioritize what matters – like time together as a family. I also love how they described authoritative parents, which is what I try to be and is (per them) the goal of Danish parenting. We want to set boundaries and rules but not be overly strict for no reason, and to remember sometimes kids have bad days, and this encouraged me to stay on that course. Definitely a good easy read with some straightforward advice!

Hunt, Gather, Parent

I’ve been on a parenting book kick lately and I enjoyed Hunt, Gather, Parent! I don’t think I will use 100% of her ideas BUT I am already having my kids help more and saying yes whenever they ask to assist with something. I am also asking them to contribute more around the house and trying to respond less to them when they get angsty or upset. So I recommend it if you’re looking for an alternative read to some of the more classic parenting books.

The Betrayal of Anne Frank

Most of us have read the diary of Anne Frank and this book chronicles the team that tried to uncover who reported the Frank family to the police. It was an interesting read!

The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry

If you read one book this year, make it this one. It has changed my thinking on how I spend my time and energy. I spend less time on my phone and more time being present – I HIGHLY recommend this!!! It also has led to the next few books…

Sabbath as Resistance

Maybe the Sabbath isn’t just a day where you don’t shop, but maybe it can be something more – this book explores how to make the Sabbath a day in your life for more than running errands or getting things done. How Sunday (or any day a week you pick if not religious!) can be a day where you say no to consumerism and more things and more activities and more stress. It has inspired me to make Sundays a phone free day and truly embrace the chill family time.

Liturgy of the Ordinary

This book was a thoughtful look at how our everyday moments can mean more. Very much a reflection of the author’s life and I enjoyed reading it!

I’ve got many books on hold at the library – I’m excited to read Simplicity Parenting and Young Forever ! Let me know any suggestions in the comments!
