Maybe this is a newsflash but your kids CAN do chores! I have realized that I need help and instead of being annoyed at my husband and I doing everything we can enlist our very capable children (6 & 4). I don’t subscribe to the “childhood should be all fun and activities and parents should make their life easy.” Nope! We want our kids to be productive around the house and learn basic chores so they can be equipped to do more as they get older and eventually go out on their own.
So here are the chores my kids do currently! Yes we have to remind them (especially since my 4 year old doesn’t read) but having them help around the house has been so great.
6 Year Old
- Make bed
- Fold her clothes and put them away
- Fold towels (and other easy communal laundry)
- Empty garbage (assist little brother)
- Set dinner table
4 Year Old
- Make bed
- Unload silverware from dishwasher
- Empty garbage
- Set dinner table
- Wipe table after dinner
Making us all work together is good for our family AND makes me less annoyed at doing things while the kids else sit there.
If you feel like you’re the only one doing anything, start getting kiddos to help! They are more capable than you think!
