Funny story…the first time I wore this hat I was so excited about it that I put it on to show my husband. Well I decided I would wear it that day so I kept it on. The day goes by, I’m wearing this hat, thinking I’m super cute. Well all of a sudden I have a spark of realization and wonder, did I ever take off the tags? NOPE. So I’d worn it all day with the tags (which were large) hanging down the back of the hat and over my hair. Fun times!
Anyways, I put on this outfit without even realizing it would be all black. My husband called this my “funeral outfit” but whatever, I think it’s cute! The key to wearing a monochrome outfit is to vary textures so you have some interest. I think the quilted vest helps liven up a basic outfit, as does the hat . I could definitely wear the dress on it’s own, but adding more layers give it some depth.
Black is really my fallback color in so many ways – you can’t go wrong with a black top and jeans, black dress, black sweater, etc. I’ve written a whole post on this dress and I’m really wearing it multiple times a week. It’s so comfy but so flattering! I can’t wait to wear it with tights and big sweaters. Basically I’m already wearing it all the time!
Tonight we’re going to Oktoberfest at Kentucky Native – which is the most adorable spot in Lexington. It’s a cafe in a flower shop and it’s so magical at night. The tables are scattered throughout the garden and under massive trees. It doesn’t have biggest menu – all vegetarian, very light fare and not the cheapest – but the setting makes up for it! I’ve gone there a few times with girlfriends but my husband has never gone, so it will be fun to go together. I’ll try to post some photos to my IG (@helen.loves).
Have a great Wednesday!
