Ok I’m gone all in on a new trend for summer – bandanas!
I used to love headbands and have felt kinda juvenile wearing them, so I was excited to see that bandanas are in this season. Let’s just say I picked up a few over Memorial Day weekend – they were 40% off!! – and I’ve been rocking them since then.
I also love how they take my hair off my neck, which is essential on hot and sticky days. And they cover up old/greasy hair or days where your hair is just off! Plus accessories make an outfit different – perfect when you’re rocking an outfit challenge like me.
option 1 – with a bow
Probably the most classic way to wear a bandana – tied on top! I just put it under my hair and then tie it on top, simple as that. Pro tip – if your bandana is super long and the “tails” of the bow are too big, knot the bandana in the back to make it shorter! I wore this to work last week and got SO many compliments on how fun it was!
option 2 – as a headband
This is in the top photo on the far right – instead of having the bow on the top of your head, tie it in the back so it’s hidden. This is a bit more subdued and not as noticeable as option 1! Perfect if you want to rock a bandana or scarf but don’t want to have a bow – I know that might be a bit “out there”, so this is a great second option!
option 3 – around a bun
I LOVE this style – it takes a messy topknot or bun and makes it more chic! I just put my hair in a ponytail then tied the bandana around the ponytail before making a bun. Then I wrapped the rest of the bandana around my hair after I had done my messy bun. How fun would this be for a Saturday??
option 4 – around a ponytail (or braid!)
This is probably the easiest option of any – just tie it around a ponytail! Anyone can do this, trust me. And it will take a plain pony and make it summer appropriate!
So there you have it – 4 ways to wear a bandana for summer! What do you think – is this trend fun or too juvenile? I have to admit I thought it was a bit too childish at first, but now I love adding them to my hair for that perfect summer look. Plus they aren’t super expensive so it’s an easy accessory to incorporate!
