Between nesting and general January cleaning, I think this January might be super productive! I want our house to be in order before baby chaos/whirlwind, so here’s what I’m going to tackle this month.
Cleaning
For cleaning checklists I love referencing Clean Mama. She also has the best natural cleaning ideas – think using baking soda and castile soap. Her scrubs get my sinks and bathtub cleaner than anything I’ve bought before! I do use bleach for nasty areas (i.e. toilets) and then I have a Mrs Meyers spray I use for all our counters. For vacuuming, this Dyson is a LIFE CHANGER (especially for cleaning up quick messes, not deep cleaning as much).
- Clean out our pantry – there are always things that are expired!
- Clean out the fridge & freezer – goodbye expired, freezer burned beyond recognition food.
- Vacuum baseboards – doing this twice a year makes our house seem so clean.
Organization
Cleaning is a great start, and organization seems like the way to finish January! So after I clean, I’ll probably focus more on prep for the year and for our BIG life changes on the horizon.
- Enter important dates and events into my new 2019 planner.
- Go through our closets and bring more to Goodwill – I’ve been getting more and more ruthless and I need to get rid of those final things we don’t need. I’m just sick of these clothes taking up space! Plus I feel like there are now clothes I will never wear again even if I can…just some things that a mother doesn’t need to wear.
- Start making freezer meals and snacks for post-baby life – I’ve heard that having snacks and food on hand is a game changer after delivery.
- Final nursery prep – I need to organize the final essentials we have and get rid of any packaging/garbage/things we won’t use.
After all the chaos of the holidays it always feels great to start fresh. Plus doing all the above will take longer than I expect since I’m slower than normal, but it will definitely occupy my weekends while my husband works! (He doesn’t have any weekends off in January)
If you want daily challenges you can follow @Simplified on Instagram for 15 minute cleaning ideas – they have been so good so far! I highly recommend checking them out. Plus I’m using their planner this year again and LOVE them 🙂
Are there any other areas you clean or organize at the start of the year?
