We are going to be in Lexington for Christmas so I’ve focused on doing *all* the fun, seasonal things we can. Plus this is our first year with a kid at Christmas – and it makes it so much fun! Here are all the things we’ve done to make this time of year super special…
- Make cookies – our favorite are spritz and hershey’s kiss cookies!
- See Ashland (Henry Clay’s estate) lit up with Christmas lights – baby girl and I loved singing Christmas carols
- Go see Santa at Hillenmeyer Christmas Shop
- See the Southern Lights at the Horse Park – we loved this so much we went twice! Pro-tip: get there RIGHT when it opens at 5:30 and go on a weeknight.
- Date night at Merrick Inn because it’s decorated so beautifully for Christmas
When we’re at home I’ve been playing allllll the Christmas music we can stand. And we look at Christmas cards, sit by the tree (behind a gate haha), and point at our Department 56 houses up on the mantle. When it’s cool we turn on our fireplace to make it extra cozy in here.
It’s going to be different and sad to not be with our families on Christmas, there’s no way around it. But we’re trying to embrace the season and find joy in new ways! This whole year has been our transition to a family of 3 from a couple, so it’s fitting that we’re doing that at Christmas as well.
Merry Christmas!
