After doing window treatments in four different houses – I can say I’ve found my favorite combination!!!
With two rentals, a new build, and this older home with broken blinds (literally every room lol) we have done a LOT of combinations of window treatments. I’ve been looking at inspiration for months and am so so happy with how this turned out.
IKEA Curtains // Home Depot Bamboo Shades // Blackout Liners
It’s truly a custom look at a really great price!
We got these bamboo shades from Home Depot and then layered IKEA curtains over them. The key is to hang the curtains far above the windows for a luxurious and custom look.
We ended up mounting the shades outside the windows (our windows are not deep enough for an inside mount) – we put them about 4 inches over the top of the window.
Then we hung the curtains half way between the ceiling and top of the bamboo shades. It really draws the eye up and makes the room look taller. (The curtains come in a ton of lengths at IKEA)
Our bedroom is very large and this half of the room was super blank. These curtains add so much dimension, texture, and style to this side of the room. Also they work *perfectly* with our blackout liners that are required for sleeping during the day. You can see the liners in the photo below. They velcro to the side of the window (do NOT use with wood windows – they will rip off the wood!) and are completely blackout. We roll them up during the day and they hide behind the bamboo shades. I love that you can’t see the ugly liners during the daytime!

I am *so happy* with how this turned out. Our room feels cozy but welcoming and I love it!!! We will probably do this exact look in every future house we live in 🙂
