I have been spending less time on my phone and more time reading. I’ve discovered that if I sit and read my kids will happily play nearby! Compare that to if I’m on my phone – they just want it or want my attention. So I’ve been doing a lot of library trips and here are some books I’ve read recently.
Joyful – this was a quick and easy read. It encouraged me to embrace the “wear what I want” philosophy more. I really don’t care how “casual” an event is – I’m going to wear what I want!
The Coddling of the American Mind – a MUST read if you are interested in culture or political science or social sciences in general. Highly highly recommend.
The Unwinding – This was a bit slower and didn’t really have a plot as it was a bunch of related stories and characters (all real) talking about how the American Dream is out of reach for more and more people. Factories closing, drugs, social decline, and more. It was interesting but wouldn’t make a must-read list as I felt it didn’t have a clear plot or aim.
A Time to Build, From Family and Community to Congress and the Campus – I also highly highly recommend this book. If you feel like our institutions are failing, there is no community around us, and things are just WEIRD – you must read this.
Dreamland – This was a great read and a great primer on all things Opioid epidemic. Maybe it’s because we lived in Kentucky and know a lot of these details, but it was still eye opening about some of the facts surrounding drugs and addiction.
Anne of Green Gables – Anne of Green Gables is one of my favorite miniseries of all time! I decided to read the books and I’ve made it through the first and second book so far. Love love love.
The Palace Papers – A new release chronicling the Windsor Women. If you’re interested in the royals this is a great read!
Let me know if you have any books you’ve loved lately – I enjoy all recommendations! As you can see from the above I’m more into nonfiction, but I do appreciate fiction sometimes 🙂 Happy reading!
