Ok don’t freak out…..but I want to add some color and texture to our house! We moved into dark walls and dark carpet so we painted everything white, which I love. It has added so much freshness and brightness to our house.
Now I want to inject some life into our rooms because everything is white. I don’t think you can have too much white but it’s all too “flat”. So I’m going to be adding some curtains, picture frame molding, and more decor throughout our living spaces and bedrooms.
I want to layer colors and patterns to add depth and dimension. I’m over farmhouse and giving into my traditional-decor leanings! Our house can easily lean traditional so we are going with that. I’ve tried to give into trends at the time – aka farmhouse mainly – but it’s never been my thing. I love overstuffed chairs, traditional clothes, smocked outfits for kids… I’m not a modern dresser or decorator. And now that traditional is BACK, I’m diving in. Call it Grandmillenial, Transitional, whatever. I am here for it.
Here are some things I’m loving…..
This whole room from Ballard! // Fabric Lampshade DIY // Rose painting // Scallop Side Table // Spindle Chair // Fabric swatches from Spoonflower // Blue Scallop Mirror // Custom Silhouette // Intaglio Art // Green Table // Blue Garden Stool // Vintage Blue Desk
I’m loving rooms like this, this, this, and this whole house.
I’ve also realized ALL our furniture is black or super dark brown (and looks black). I think it’s because it’s all from IKEA or Target and that was just the easiest to purchase. So I want to add some dimension with antiques and wood – going to hit up an Estate Sale tomorrow (!!!). Crazy, I know.
It’s fun to be decorating but it can be all-consuming to spend time doing it. I’m also trying to avoid impulse purchases so that’s why I’m sharing these mood boards and spending a lot of time on Pinterest.
What do you think about traditional style being back in style? Let me know in the comments!
