Mid-Year Check In

I hope you all had a fabulous holiday weekend! We had a few parties, dinners with friends, and spent time at the pool. It was a perfect mix of fun and down time.

I wanted to spend some time reflecting on 2023 so far and resetting goals and expectations for the rest of the year.

When I wrote this post with my 2023 Intentions I didn’t know what 2023 would bring. But I have been able to work on some items on the list. I go on a lot of walks, which the kids and I love. We have also gotten much more social! If anything, I feel like improving/closer friendships is the highlight of 2023 for me so far. I was able to go on a girls trip in March and had a best friend visit for my birthday. I have friends here that I enjoy spending time with and I can truly talk to openly and honestly about my life! It takes time to make friends in a new spot (I wrote about that years ago in THIS post from 3 moves ago LOL), and now that we have been here for almost 2 years I have a good set of friends. I also have been making more new friends at the pool which is super nice!

I know I am going to be depending on these friendships a lot this year. We have had such a good year so far it’s a bit sad to realize the rest of the year is going to be so different. I’m not sure I’ll ever get into details on here for my family’s privacy, so I know it’s vague and unsatisfying haha. But I keep telling myself I’ve been through tough times as a person and a parent – HELLO RESIDENCY! So if I can get through 3 years of residency I can get through anything.

Basically where we are now is not what we expected at the start of the year. The challenges we will have this year are new to us and will test myself, my husband, and the kids. And it’s all still ok! I could sit in my house and cry about how this year won’t be as fun and carefree as we wanted. But that wouldn’t help me and it would probably make my children *freak out.*

I actually just made a list of fun things we can do for the rest of the year that we can pick from whenever we want to branch out. I am really excited to get to some of the items on the list! So even if it’s not all the things we envisioned in January, we are still going to have a good time. Here are a few items on the list-

  • Try 3 new restaurants
  • See new Christmas lights (I know, far in advance LOL)
  • Call a friend/family member once a week
  • See a movie with the kids

So we’re going to enjoy all these days at the pool, lazy moments at home, and fun times with friends. We are so lucky to have our house, our friends, and be healthy. I know it will still be a good rest of the year! I hope you are all having a good year too and even if it’s not what you pictured 6 months ago – I hope you can make the rest of the year special in your own way.
