Closet Essentials That Make Me Feel Cute and Confident!

Everyone who told you that getting dressed will make you feel better as a mom was RIGHT, sorry.

Greetings friends!

I’m here to break it to you…getting dressed will make you feel better.

I bucked this for years and really didn’t worry about what I was wearing running errands. Until I moved to our current home. People here really don’t wear athleisure for errands all the time. Sometimes, but not always. I frequently also see jeans and a cute tops or dresses.

Living here has changed my thoughts on getting ready and out for the day. I honestly appreciate this change in my attitude!

I don’t want to look like a sad mom who is struggling. Maybe I feel that way but I don’t want to look it. Yes we all have bad days. And mostly I’m running to 8AM school drop-off in workout clothes – but I try not to wear the junky, ripped, or just threadbare clothes that should stay at home.

So I have really tried to put on an “outfit” when I’m leaving the house, and change into nicer lounge clothes even if I’m just at home. This change really made me feel better when I was newly postpartum with baby #3.

Here are some items I truly recommend adding to your closet or considering if you want to enhance your daily outfits.

Cuter Than Basic Athleisure

I live in workout clothes – it’s just mom life. But I try to wear clothes that aren’t dirty, stretched out, or plain ugly. We all have those painting-type clothes that need to just stay home.

Tuckernuck Skirt – so cute and so comfortable!

Beyond Yoga Skirt – another fun option and I love the pleats, they are very flattering.

Beyond Yoga T-Shirts – soft, cute, one million colors.

Varley Pullovers – these pullovers are the perfect “finishing” piece. If I’m out of ideas for what to wear I wear a black skirt or joggers with this black Varley pullover. The matching sets really make life easy! One note – in my experience their sizing varies by each piece, so you might need to try a few sizes.

Joggers – I love my Lululemon pair but there are so many options! Pick any retailer and they sell a variety of options.

Cute Jeans

J.Crew – these crop flares are my postpartum workhorses. I love love love them. Cannot recommend them more.

Anthropologie – the Maeve jeans come in so many colors and washes. They are super flattering and easy to wear.

MOTHER – I have multiple pairs from MOTHER (this and this) and they are pricey but they are honestly my most-worn jeans when I’m not pregnant or postpartum. So I do recommend them!

Fun Tops

J.Crew Factory – so many easy tops to add to your wardrobe like thisthis, or this.

Sezane – another great options for blouses that are a bit beyond basic. Like thisthis, or this.

Throw on and Go Dresses

Hill House – I have 4 nap dresses and I wear them weekly. They are so clutch for the hot climate and nursing and pregnancy friendly! I love thisthis, and this.

Xirena – I have two of this dress because they are flattering, comfortable, and easy to style. Add Birkenstocks or cute tennis shoes (love Oncept!) and you have a whole outfit.

Fun Jewelry

Here are some fun pieces to just add some pizazz to jeans and a top:

I hope this all gives you some inspiration for your daily outfits. Grab a shirt, jeans, necklace, and you’re good to go for a day of errands and mom life – and you’ll look cute with minimal effort.
