4 Winter Closet Essentials

Have you guys been cleaning your house and trying to declutter? I know I have been! And I constantly struggle with my closet – I have so many clothes!

As I’ve been cleaning I’m getting rid of stuff I never wear, but have kept for some unknown reason. I’m not going full Marie Kondo but I am trying to evaluate what I really need. So today I wanted to share some winter closet essentials – 4 of them, to be exact.

This was spurred by an amazing Christmas gift – A Simplified Life by Emily Ley. And guess what, she’s going to be in Lexington TONIGHT! She will be at Lifeway by the Fayette Mall at 6:30 tonight – more details here! I’ve followed her for years – she was one of the first bloggers I followed on IG – and I love her planners. My husband even knows about her since I’ve talked about her so much. She has prompted me to look at my clothes again, and really everything I have in my house.

So on the theme of simplifying, today I’m sharing some items you should definitely keep in your closet.  I wear these items all the time and will not be getting rid of them any time soon!

Great Pair of Denim

Tie-sleeve sweater from Nordstrom, Madewell denim, Target booties for fall 2017

I am a Madewell denim convert – I love it!!! Not that I didn’t like it before, but I just hadn’t tried it. I still do love my Paige jeans but I reach for my 9″ Madewell Denim 3 or 4 days a week. It’s so comfy, flattering, and you can wear it with everything. You need a great pair of jeans in your closet for all seasons, and I can’t recommend Madewell highly enough. Check it out if you want a new pair! They have more than just skinny jeans if you want a different fit.

Classic Boots

You cannot go wrong with a black boot – they will never go out of style! I wear my Melissa boots all the time in colder temps because they’re cute and warm. Plus they’re perfect for work – I can easily wear them with pants or dresses (like above!). Like my favorite jeans, you want something you can rely on with any outfit – and black boots fit the bill!

Leggings

Leggings are such a closet workhorse for me. I don’t wear them to work (unless under a dress and I want to be SUPER warm), but they’re in heavy rotation nights and weekends. I picked up a pair of leather leggings a year ago and am wearing them so often! I reach for my Lululemon pair most of the time, but I’ve heard great things about this Zella pair (and might need to try them for myself). Plus I love pairing leggings with the next item on my list…

Oversized Sweaters

Most recently I shared what I was wearing for Christmas – and shocker, it was a cozy sweater! Target has had a great selection of sweaters lately (might be getting tougher as they bring in new items – but newsflash to retailers, it’s not spring yet!) and that’s where I picked up the grey sweater here.

So there you have it – my winter essentials! As you can see above, a lot of my outfits are combinations of one (or all!) of these items. It’s hard to have posts showcasing these items again and again – I’m pretty sure everyone would get bored! But the reality is that there are lots of things I wear that don’t make it to social media. Pretty sure everyone doesn’t want to see another day of me in leggings and a huge sweater.

Ok well be sure to follow along on Instagram tonight (@helen.loves) to see the Emily Ley book signing! I’m so excited! And then the Bachelor is on right after that…what a night!
