In case you’re new to this corner of the internet, we moved from Lexington, Kentucky to the Minneapolis area back in May. 2020 has been a crazy year for so many reasons but we have now been settled for a few months so I wanted to do a quick check-in.
We absolutely love our townhouse – both the layout/size and location. It fits us perfectly! It’s the same square footage as our house in Lexington but is laid out much better for our life. (You can see a full tour of our Lex home here) We went from 3 bedrooms in Lex to 2 here, and that means we gained an entire additional living space. Having a family room in our basement is amazing with a toddler. All her non-book toys are downstairs and it’s a great space to hang out. I can see us spending lots of cozy times down there in the fall and winter. We have a huge comfy couch from Pottery Barn and just love being down there.
We also didn’t need a third bedroom because we no longer have guests – the perks of living near family! So it might be unconventional to lose a bedroom, but the gained entertaining space was completely worth it. We also had a lot of wasted space in our bedrooms in KY (they were massive!) and we are happy to have smaller bedrooms and more living space.
The location of our house is perfect too. We are close to family, shopping, parks and restaurants. We can walk to a bunch of parks either on sidewalks or paved trails – which is amazing. I’m not going to get into specifics of where we live, but safe to say being in a central suburb is amazing. We are so happy to have found a place to live here that fits our needs.
My husband is loving his job and has made a good transition from residency to attending life. He has a bit of a commute (the literal ONLY negative of his job) but has found a bunch of podcasts 🙂 The stress of the job is also getting better each shift!
So basically we are SO HAPPY to be living here and I think we like this house more than our house in Lexington! We love the layout, the location is amazing, and it fits our needs so perfectly. We are so lucky to have lived lots of places that worked for that specific moment in our life – and this is no exception.
