The temperatures are increasing and it’s amazing to be spending time outside! I feel like everyone is enjoying parks and trails even more post-quarantine. We LOVE going for walks – we have done it almost daily this year – and spending time in nature. Someone loves to “pick” flowers and run around an open field.
Today I wanted to share some items that we use all the time in the summer, and some of my tips for getting outside!
Sun Protection
I am *very* pale and sunburn extremely easily, so sun protection is super important to me. I wear sunscreen religiously (this for my face!) and put it on my daughter whenever we are outside for more than a few minutes. I love this sunscreen from ThinkBaby – it takes a bit to blend in but works super well. I also love Sun Bum for the delightful smell!
More important than sunscreen is physical protection – think hats and long sleeves. She wears this long sleeved swimsuit and hat when we’re outside. I also make sure she has a hat on whenever we are walking around the park.
Outdoor Fun
We don’t have a big backyard (or really any backyard!) so we spend more time in our front yard. But my parents did snag a baby pool at Target so we could put it in their yard or at the cabin. I tried to find some in stock to link below, but you might just have to try in-store! For when we do go in the pool or the lake we love this float.
Some other go-tos are chalk and bubbles. We are doing daily baths because of sunscreen so I don’t really care if we get sticky at the end of the day! Or we just walk to the mailbox slowly – the simple things 🙂
Exercise as a Family
We LOVE walking and do it daily! You can see my full review of our Uppababy stroller and I highly recommend it – the extending handles are key for long walks if you’re tall. Even if we just walk to the park (8 minutes from our door to the swing!) it’s essential to get outside.
We also recently purchased a Burley Bee and use it for family bike rides. Biking is so popular in Minneapolis because it’s so easy to get to trails or safe bike lanes. I see people with Burleys or Thule Chariots literally daily!
Getting outside daily is so good for our physical and mental health, especially in weird times like these. I look forward to our daily walks and our trips to the park – and I know she does too! Even if we just wander in our driveway it’s refreshing to be outdoors.
